AWHONN Challenge Coins Now Available!
AWHONN Challenge CoinNow is your opportunity to purchase an AWHONN Armed Forces District Military Challenge Coin. A portion of the proceeds from each coin purchase will go to support the Fisher House Foundation. A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers, both that related to war injuries or “peacetime” care---to include women’s health and neonatal care. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 37 Fisher Houses located on 18 military installations and eight VA medical centers. A new house is under construction at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center in Tampa, FL., and another at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio. To learn more about the Fisher House visit their website. The coins are priced from $4.75 to $6.00 each, depending on quantity. Find out more about the tradition of challenge coins and get your order form here: DOC or PDF. Compendium of Postpartum Care, Second Edition
AWHONN has just released the 2nd edition of the Compendium of Postpartum Care. This book provides fundamental information for our section members that care for women, infant and families from birth through three months postpartum. This latest edition of the compendium includes the most comprehensive and updated practice guidelines for postpartum care that addresses the physical, emotional, psychosocial and developmental needs of the family. The product is available through the AWHONN store and has continuing education hours included with the purchase price.

Armed Forces Section Educators
Our section website has a special link for educators within our geographically diverse membership. The purpose of the education page is to list current instructors and instructor trainers for the section membership. The link provides email access so individuals can be contacted to assist with continuing education. It’s important to keep this list updated so please let us know if you are an instructor for any of the following programs or if you have recently changed duty stations: AWHONN fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation, Resolve Through Sharing bereavement, advanced life support for obstetrics and STABLE. Please contact Major Becky Cypher at RLCJUMPER@aol.com for additions or changes.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Guidelines for Active Duty Women
Are you looking for guidelines regarding pregnancy and breastfeeding in our active duty military population? We have recently added links to the Navy and Marine Corps policies concerning these topics. You can find them at www.awhonn-af.org/resources.htm The link includes the following policies and letters: Support of Servicewomen with Nursing Infants; Marine Corps Policy Concerning Pregnancy and Parenthood; and Navy Policy to Support Breastfeeding and Human Lactation.

Newly Revised Perinatal Orientation and Education Program (POEP)
AWHONN’s POEP is designed to provide nurses with theoretical knowledge needed to implement family centered care for women, infants, and family members during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum period. The program content is intended to be used for nursing orientation as well as continuing education purposes. There are ten modules to include the newly added sections on complications in pregnancy and perinatal loss. This program is a fantastic resource for clinical educators as well as nurse managers looking for educational opportunities for their military members. For more details about specific modules, costs and continuing education click here.

Neonatal Orientation and Education Program (NOEP)
AWHONN has just released a new educational offering to assist Armed Forces members with implementation of a standardized, evidence based orientation and education program for Level II and Level III neonatal units. NOEP is designed to provide new graduate nurses and nurses who are experienced but new to the neonatal setting with the knowledge needed to care for neonates. NOEP includes a series of twelve comprehensive modules and includes instructions for presenters, slide handout pages, references, posttests, a program evaluation tool, and continuing education application. Further information can be obtained by visiting www.awhonn.org/awhonn.
